If you are missing teeth, our experienced dentists may recommend replacing them with dental implants. An implant is the ideal replacement for a missing tooth, as it works to replace both the root and the crown of the tooth to restore your smile and promote your long-term oral health and quality of life. We invite you to call Laurelwood Dental at 503-284-3575 to schedule a consultation with Dr. Reed Hall and Dr. Isaac Edwards and find out if dental implants in Portland, Oregon, are right for you.
Dental implants are prosthetic teeth. They consist of two main parts – the implant post and the implant restoration. The implant post replaces the tooth root, anchoring the tooth to your jawbone and providing a stable foundation for your teeth and smile. Implant posts also perform the same function as your original tooth root, stimulating the supporting jawbone to prevent it from deteriorating and maintaining your bone density.
Implant restorations replace the crowns of the teeth. Depending on how many teeth you are replacing, this restoration may be a single crown, a bridge or a denture. Your restoration is custom-made to fit your mouth and to look natural.
When you receive an implant, the implant post will be surgically placed into your jawbone. After it has healed, the implant restoration can be created and bonded into place atop the implant post.
Anyone who has lost a tooth is a candidate for implant dentistry. You should be able to receive an implant without difficulty as long as your teeth and gums are healthy. If you have a pre-existing dental condition, such as tooth decay or gum disease, you will need to receive treatment for that condition prior to having an implant placed. Once your implant is placed, we strongly encourage you to take care of it with regular brushing and flossing. While implants are intended to be a permanent replacement for your missing teeth, they require the same care as your original teeth to remain stable and functional in your mouth.
